My Story
I have been thinking for some time now about fundraising for a charity and have decided now is the time. I have chosen to raise funds for Cancer Research UK so that one day we will have a cure for cancer. I have personally seen the pain and the suffering of family members and friends fighting this disease, along with the effects on their loved ones, no one should to have go through these experiences. I am driven to raise these funds having seen my mother battle with cancer for 17 years and the suffering she endured towards the end (2009). More recently my father-in-law also succumbed to this dreadful disease (2020) and currently a number of friends also going through treatment. We all deal with the anger, the grief and heartache in different ways, to this end I have decided to try to raise money for Cancer Research UK (CRUK) by undertaking three banger rallies. I will be funding each rally and all monies that are raised will go direct to CRUK To raise funds for CRUK I will hopefully be completing 3 banger rallies across different parts of Europe between March and September this year with a number of different friends and family members. I have purchased a Jaguar X-type 2.0D with 129700 miles on the clock for the princely sum of £500 (the maximum permissible to enter the rallies). The first rally (The Rustbox NC 500) is planned for the 8th March and will involve travelling to Fort William in Scotland before completing the North Coast 500 and returning to Hailsham, East Sussex in one piece and hopefully under our own steam. I will regularly update this page outlining the progress made on each rally. Rallies 2 and 3 hopefully will be to Barcelona and Romania respectively if the car survives. If not I will be in the market for another banger. How money will be raised: Through donations through this site, By seeking sponsorship from businesses in exchange for logos on the car.. By running sweep stakes to guess the number of miles for each rally, start to finish or how far the car will get before a low loader is needed! I will be visiting car shows throughout the summer to promote the car, advertise the sponsors and try to increase donations at these events. Other events such as quizzes will be arranged if it is possible to do so. I am open to suggestions.
