My Story
On Friday 30th August, the FWB Team will go on an all-day epic adventure and hike up the Seven Hills of Edinburgh in solidarity with those fighting the uphill struggle against cancer. We’ll cover 22 kilometres of distance. We’ll hike up 600 metres of elevation. We’ll be on our feet for 11 hours. Quite the challenge for the team and we're all really looking forward to it! We want to show solidarity for those battling cancer and hope to raise a fantastic amount of money which will directly support the amazing researchers at Edinburgh's Cancer Research centre. We are asking friends, family and colleagues to support our efforts by donating to Cancer Research UK. By donating to our cause, you will help the most brilliant scientists carry out clinical trials and ultimately find a cure for cancer. Join or support us and make a real difference in fighting the uphill struggle against cancer. Thank you! Ailsa: Several of us, including my precious Mum who we lost in July this year, have had experiences with cancer and so this event really resonates with me and all of my extended family and friends. By donating to our cause, you will help the most brilliant scientists in Edinburgh carry out clinical trials and ultimately find a cure for cancer. If you can, please support us and make a real difference in fighting the uphill struggle against cancer. Annabel: Cancer has impacted the lives of many people close to all of us. By taking on this challenge, I want to do my bit and raise some funds to help fight this devastating disease. Your support brings us one step closer to finding a cure. Heather: I am taking part in the 7 Hills Challenge this year to help raise funds to beat cancer and support critical research. This charity holds a special place in my heart for many reasons. I am looking forward to raising money for this very worthy cause! Kirsten: I like most of us, have lost loved ones to cancer, and my best friend’s Mum is battling it currently with such courage and grace. I have also seen the benefits of early detection and treatment in helping people live with or recover from cancer. This challenge pales in comparison to those that people living with cancer face, so it is a privilege to be able to climb these hills with lovely colleagues to raise money for such a worthy cause. Kym: After losing my gran to cancer and witnessing countless families endure the pain and heartbreak of losing their loved ones, I am driven to tackle this uphill challenge. My goal is to support those who fight every day to persevere, even when the struggle feels endless in their battle against this terrible disease. Laura: I'm hiking in memory of my grandparents, who both lost their battle with cancer. I have fond memories of walking Blackford Hill and the Pentlands with my Grandad – so this challenge will be sentimental and all for a very worthy cause! Lindsay: I am looking forward to being part of the ‘Take on 7 Hills’ again this year with my lovely colleagues. Cancer is something none of us ever want to be faced with, and far too many of our friends and family have been affected by it so by raising money for this worthy cause – I really hope this horrible disease can be left in the past. Lisa: I am joining the 7 Hills Challenge in honour of my grandpa, who fought cancer for 16 years before sadly passing away a couple of years ago. By participating in this walk, I hope to make a small but meaningful contribution to the fight against cancer, supporting research that can lead to better treatments and, ultimately, a cure. Megan: I am taking part in this challenge as too may of our colleagues, friends and family have their lives turned upside down by Cancer. With 1 in 2 now to be affected, it is vital we collectively do what we can to make the disease a thing of the past. By donating to our cause, you will make a real difference in furthering the fight against this awful illness.
