My Story
Back in 2008 when I was still at high school, my Grandad Alan was diagnosed with late stage bowel cancer. He had multiple surgeries however we knew it was terminal. He lost his battle within a few months leaving many friends and close family behind. In January 2016 I decided to complete my dryathlon in his memory, not realising I would soon loose one of my closest relatives to this horrific disease. On 18th January 2016 I received a phone call from my brother to tell me that my Aunty Sylv had collapsed outside a walk in centre unable to breathe and was heading to hospital by ambulance. Less than an hour later she passed away leaving her family and friends devastated. After many weeks of uncertainty we were informed that she had cancer of the bile duct which was already in terminal stages with nothing the hospital could have done. I hope that any small contribution I am able to make will help bring an end to cancer.
