In memory of

Mary Sievier

My Story

In June of 2023 a great friend of mine Mary Smith (nee Sievier) had a fall at her flat in Gosport and it resulted in a trip to the Hospital. While there it was discovered that she had a Tumor on her brain that no one had seen any signs of in the previous months. It was deemed to be too far advanced to operate on or for anything much other that steroids to be given to reduce the inflammation. Mary was the first known woman to have traveled around the world by Motorcycle, setting off from Selsey in Sussex in 1967 and returning home 7 or so years later. Mary did this epic trip on a BSA Bantam which is now on display in the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu. I had the privilege of helping Mary create a presentation about her travels for the Overland Event in Oxfordshire. Mary made it to the Overland Event in 2023 and celebrated her 80th Birthday in October 2023 before she went on her final ride. I am dedicated this to Mary and the many other friends I have lost to Cancer over the years. This challenge in aid of Cancer Research UK, is for motorcyclists on cheap and inappropriate motorcycles to ride from Land’s End to John O'Groats in 24hrs on the longest day of the year. Bikes must have been bought for no more than £600!
