My Story

Cancer is happening right now, which is why I'm taking part in a Race for Life Pretty Muddy to raise money and save lives. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work, so please sponsor me. In November 2012 Mam was diagnosed with Stage 4 TCC Cancer in her kidney. She started chemotherapy on 27th December 2012 to try and shrink the tumour. In June 2013 she had her kidney removed. She bounced back as only mam could and continued enjoying life with her family. In March 2014 we got the bombshell that the cancer had spread to her bladder. She had to have an operation to remove her bladder and a full hysterectomy and once again, after everything she had been put through, she bounced back. Mam's health started deteriorating from July 2014 and in November we received the devastating news that the cancer was now in her liver and stomach and there was no other treatment that they could offer. December 2014 was the first time Mam stayed at the St Cuthberts hospice to get her symptoms under control. We witnessed 1st hand what an amazing place this is. All mam wanted was to be at home with all of her family for Christmas. All of her effort was put into planning the perfect day......and she pulled it off, as always! Boxing Day was the turning point and her health quickly deteriorated with the cancer then spreading to her spine. Mam made the decision that St Cuthberts offered the best support that she needed. She was admitted on Friday 23rd January 2015 and spent her last 18 days there. She is so badly missed by all her family and friends. Thank you so much for donating to such an amazing cause.
