To raise awareness and encourage positivity while raising money for life saving research!
I was diagnosed at age 32 with breast cancer. At the time my two sons were only 8 months and 3 years old. I was told I needed to have a lumpectomy followed by chemotherapy and then radiotherapy. I decided that I may be going through treatment but thought to myself that it was no excuse to dress down! I have used my love of shoes to help new get through the last few months - I am a true believer of look good, feel good and I refused to let my diagnosis crush my spirit and change me. I didn't want people to change how they viewed or treated me and and I certainly didn't want anyone feeling sorry for me. I needed to be normal and be 'me' for the sake of my sons, my husband and my wellbeing. I decided I would start posting positive images on Instagram to show that you can turn things in to a positive. When attending my hospital appointments i would wear different shoes each time and the staff and fellow patients were always interested in what I was wearing so I set myself the challenge to wear a different pair of shoes for each of my radiotherapy appointments - 23 in total and post these to Instagram each day. Rather than worrying about my treatment each day, I instead worry about what I'm going to wear!! I Hope to inspire other young cancer sufferers to be positive about themselves after diagnosis and during treatment - it is so important to not let cancer define you. I also want to raise awareness of breast cancer In younger people and encourage people to check themselves regularly. Cancer Research UK is an important charity to me as I have been treated curetively due to the amazing research which has been done in to cancers like mine, however through my journey I have met some amazing people who sadly aren't as lucky as me and more money needs to be raised to fund research and help find cures\treatment for other cancers. With this in mind, I would like to raise some money to help fund the fantastic work of Cancer Research UK.
