My Story

To all my lovely friends, I apologise for once again appealing to your generosity. I had planned to do this event anyway but would like to now do it in memory of my Dad who died from cancer on Sunday 10 October. My Dad battled cancer four times. He was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 1992, prostate cancer in 2013, pancreatic cancer in 2014 and head and neck cancer in 2021. They were all unrelated. I sat with Dad every week over 13 sessions of chemotherapy in 2014 and he lived with me and my ex partner whilst recovering from his pancreatic cancer op. Recently, along with my sister and Dad's friends, I cared for Dad at home and I held his hand when he died at the Rowan's Hospice, just as I had done my Mum. When Dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer my Mum was in the Rowan's Hospice in her final days due to lung cancer that metastasized to her brain. I've seen this disease up close and personal too many times and the devastating consequences and it makes me furious. But I really don't want this to sound like it's all bad news because it isn't. The light in this story is my Dad had pancreatic cancer, which has a less than 2% survival rate and due to research into new chemotherapy treatment which Dad received he kicked it's backside and had SEVEN years we never thought he would have. He ran the Great South Run in 2015, rode his motorbike, saw his grandchildren start to grow up and lived a good life. For that I am immensely grateful and I celebrate it every day. But more still needs to be done. Those of you who know me well know I like to be glam (as much as you can be when you're middle aged!) So to make it worth your sponsorship money this year I'm running the Pretty Muddy event, which for a woman who thinks nothing of wearing sequins to work is a big deal!! If I raise £150 or more I will do it in Halloween fancy dress, and post the pics on Facebook in all my muddy glory 😁 for you to take the p**s out of! So whilst I know times are tough financially please make a donation. Rather than send me a condolence card about Dad, or flowers to his funeral, please donate to this page and Cancer Research, that would make my day as well as Dad's and potentially it could save lives. Plus getting to see me dressed as a zombie cheerleader up to my neck in mud has got to be worth £5 of anyone's money! Thank you for your time, much love, Feleena XXX
