My Story

. Cancer has touched my family more than once, but the most traumatic experience we faced was when my sister was diagnosed with leukaemia at such a young age - she was only 12 years old. I was only a child myself, too young to fully understand what was happening, but old enough to feel the fear and uncertainty that surrounded us. I spent a lot of time in the hospital with her, walking through halls filled with children who, like my sister, were fighting battles far bigger than themselves. We tried to make the best of those moments. Together, we made friends—little bonds formed in a place no child should have to call familiar. But sometimes, when I came back to visit, those friends were no longer there. It was a quiet, heartbreaking reality that I didn’t fully grasp at the time, but I felt it deeply. There were days when we were told her health wasn’t improving, and those words stayed with me, filling me with a constant, heavy worry. It felt like living in between hope and fear, never quite knowing what the next day would bring. But through it all, we held on. And today, I can say how incredibly blessed we are—because my sister is still here with us. That is something I will never take for granted. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
