My Story
You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have! In 2019, cancer really taught me this. In September, my selfless, beautiful Auntie lost her fight to the exact same cancer at the exact same age as my precious Nan 10 years earlier. But before she did, she left the most special, life changing gift for us all. The knowledge that the women in our family may possess the BRCA1 gene. About 12% of women will develop breast cancer at some point in their lives. This awful gene increases that risk to almost 80%. Because of my Auntie Susan’s last final gift, the women in my family have been able to be tested and precautionary measures can now be taken to manage the risks associated. Earlier in the year my amazing mother-in-law found a lump in her breast. Within a matter of a couple of months, she was diagnosed, treated and given the all clear. How incredible? None of the above would have been possible without money raised and donated to Cancer charities across the UK. It has not only saved my mother in laws life, but every single woman in my family for years to come. In May 2020 I’ll be running the Race for Life with the amazing women and men in my family to raise money for Cancer Research UK. Even if you can’t support me with a donation, please check your body regularly and see your GP as soon as you notice anything unusual. Human spirits together are stronger than anything that can happen to them 💫
