My Story

Thanks so much for stopping by my fundraising page. I’ve signed up to the 10 Days of 5k in October Challenge for Stand Up To Cancer to help fund life-saving research. It has been a long time since I did any sort of sponsored event - perhaps Primary School and that sponsored spelling test! This is a little bit different. I fancied a challenge that got me outside whilst raising money for a good cause. Like almost everyone I know, cancer has touched my life in various ways - three years ago it joined our family, when my lovely Dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 Thymic Cancer. A rare cancer with symptoms easily mistaken for something else. In fact he was misdiagnosed initially, meaning that by the time the cancer was identified it had already spread and was inoperable. Sadly since signing up for this challenge we have been told to begin preparing for end of life care - which makes this challenge feel all the more personal and timely. Whilst the ground-breaking research Cancer Research does can no longer benefit my dad, it can help other families like ours, dealing with the hard realities of cancer and its impact. I am a regular, albeit not particularly fast, runner, so I am not starting from scratch - but 50k over four weeks is still quite a milestone even for me.
