The Big Half 2018
Sun 4 Mar 2018
I'm running the Big Half for Cancer Research because there is no other cause which has directly affected so many of my own family members and friends. Throughout my life, I have been inspired watching those close to me fighting the disease and hearing similar stories of others I have come to know. It is for that reason that Cancer Research is the perfect charity to motivate me to run 13.1 miles. In case anyone is in any doubt, I do not enjoy running. I enjoy running in the cold and dark early mornings even less. And I did not sign up to my first ever (and almost certainly last) half marathon for the challenge, enjoyment or fitness. Raising money for Cancer Research however, is all the motivation I need. Cancer diseases have impacted almost everyone I know, whether through a relative or friend. I'm always in awe of the leaps that research has made across even my lifetime, yet there is clearly such a long way to go. Anything I can do to help in even a small way to aide the research that will lead to improvements for cancer sufferers is worth the comparatively small pain I will endure in running a half marathon. I'm now halfway into my training and with exactly 100.1 miles run to date so far, I have now some small hope that I will indeed make it round the course in one piece in 8 weeks time. I would therefore be extremely grateful for anything you can give to support me and this incredibly worthy cause. Thank you for taking the time to read my story, Emma
