My Story
2 years ago I lost the most important person in my life, my mum to bowel cancer and secondary liver cancer. My mum had no symptoms until it was too late and was diagnosed with terminal cancer. A month after her diagnosis she unfortunately passed away. My mum went from being healthy and working part time as a kitchen assistant in her local school to being bed bound struggling with daily activities. I spent a lot of time with my mum when I was younger as it was just me and her after my sisters moved out and my dad passed away. This meant seeing my mum's health degenerate because of the cancer was one of the worst things I have ever experienced. Unfortunately due to COVID and the lockdowns, my mum had to deal with the news of her cancer alone, which I can't even start to imagine how she must have felt. This meant that we had to be extra careful when coming to visit her. This also unfortunately meant that we didn't get to spend much time with her before she passed away. So I have decided to do the Cancer Research Night Shine walk in memory of my mum, my best friend, my hero. Any donations would be gratefully appreciated and will go towards important research to help other people in the future.
