In July 2020, one of my dearest friends in the world was diagnosed with throat cancer. He is currently kicking cancer's ass and totally bossing his chemo and radiation therapy. This came 5 months after suffering a stroke, aged 45. A stroke and cancer in the space of 6 months. He has dedicated his life to teaching young people, supporting those with additional needs, and fighting for those who can't fight for themselves. He is the most compassionate, inspirational and hardworking person I've ever known. In 2019, we ran a half marathon together, but something as simple as talking became a real challenge for him, let alone getting out there running. Seeing someone you love dearly going through not one, but two, incredibly hard experiences, and not being able to do anything about it, not being able to help or take away the pain, is heart-wrenching. So I'm doing the only thing I can do....run! I asked him what charity he would like me to fundraise for, and he chose Cancer Research UK. I completed 5 events/challenges in 2021: -- Vitality 10k Hatfied park - July - London Landmarks Half Marathon - August - Vitality Big Half Marathon - August - Great North Run (half marathon)- September -October- Great South Run (10 miles) -500 miles in 12 months challenge Now, for 2022 I have another 5 events/challenges ahead: - Brighton Marathon (26.2 miles) - April - 50k Ultra marathon (which one TBC) - July - Great North Run (13.1 miles)- September - Great South Run (10 miles)-- October - Annual Virtual Runner miles challenge- monthly mileage accumulator with a goal of a minimum of 75km a month I may add more events as the year goes on (Covid-19 dependant) and will update the page with my times, race photos etc. I have a minimum target of £500. My fundraising will continue all year, until my last event is finished. Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, and please, please donate any amount you can spare to help fight this terrible disease xxx
