Shine London 2020 - Full Marathon

Sat 26 Sep 2020 - Sat 26 Sep 2020

I'm walking at Shine Walk Your Way in the fight to beat cancer

My Story

Our lives may have been put on hold at the moment, but cancer hasn't stopped. To make sure people are still getting the support they need, I'll be taking part in Shine Walk Your Way, which is a marathon walk round London. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s ground breaking work, so please sponsor me now! In January 2020 I was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer. This came as a huge shock and has turned my world upside down. This was supposed to be a year of big celebrations as we have just formally adopted our gorgeous son and it was my 40th birthday in April but...cancer doesn't care about any of that. Like many people I am sure, I was very aware of cancer statistics but never thought it would happen at this stage of my life. The diagnosis was so hard to deal with and it will be with me forever. I have now had successful surgery to remove the cancer and had chemotherapy and radiotherapy to help prevent it returning. My care has been amazing with the NHS and they were particularly amazing as my treatment was during the pandemic, so anything I can do to help fund cancer research is a big focus for me now. Only with our continued support can they turn this research into breakthroughs that save millions of lives. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work, so please sponsor me.

CAUSE

Breast cancer

With almost 140 women diagnosed every day, breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK. And, although rarer, around 350 men are also diagnosed with breast cancer every year. The good news is more than two-thirds of women now survive 20 years or more. Help Cancer Research UK find new ways to diagnose and treat the disease.
