My Story
Hello! On Sunday 2nd October, I'm running the London Marathon to raise money for Cancer Research UK. In the UK, 1 in 2 people will get cancer in their lifetime, along with millions more around the world, causing huge amounts of suffering and cutting many lives short. Cancer Research's pioneering work into how to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer has benefitted millions of lives since the charity's foundation, but there's still a long way to go. I'm running in memory of my wonderful Dad, Martyn, who passed away in October 2019, just a couple of weeks after being diagnosed with cancer. Losing him so quickly was a shock, and difficult to come to terms with. Cancer Research aims to advance our understanding of the disease, bring about better treatments, and improve survival rates, meaning less people have to go through the pain that we did. I'd love to be able to raise £2,500 to play a small part in the charity reaching these goals. I've been running short distances for a couple of years now, but nothing quite on the scale of a marathon, or even a half marathon! While I'm excited to eat vast amounts of peanut butter on bagel, I'm not looking forward to the impact on my poor legs and social life. This is going to be a real physical and mental challenge for me, so any donation, big or small, will help me get through it. Thank you! Emily xx
