My Story
When I was about 5 years old my dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer. It was caught early (in part thanks to the fact he regularly gave blood), he got treatment and I had him in my life for another 20-odd years. In late 2018 my dad was diagnosed with stomach cancer, got treatment throughout 2019 and by the end of the year he was in remission. Unfortunately on 1st March 2020 we found that the cancer had come back and had spread to his liver and spleen and was incurable. I got to see him in Spain a few weeks later which would be the last time I'd see him as he died on 31st March. In the middle of all this we found out my uncle had been hospitalised with throat cancer in mid-March (in hindsight we think he knew but hadn't told anyone) and he died on 30th March 2020. (My gran also died in March 2020 though that wasn't cancer-related so needless to say that month sucked). I'm doing this walk in the memory of my dad and uncle and for the 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Any and all donations would be much appreciated and this 10km walk is truly just a small act to do something in the face of such a horrible disease.
