My Story

Cancer is happening right now, which is why I'm taking part in a Race for Life 5k to raise money and save lives. My brother was 11 years old when I came into his life, he was the youngest of three. His parents, my paternal grandparents brought me home. I was a baby so he could have felt resentment towards me taking up most of their time. He didn't though. One of my first memories is of him teaching me to talk. He was always there for me, teaching me to walk, he even bought me my first bike and taught me to cycle when I was three! I used to love it when he'd give me a ride on his cross bars up to our Nan's house. Even when he was older, whenever he came through the front door, he would come and spend time with me. From borrowing his records, giving my friends and I a lift to a club, to travelling 5 hours to spend Christmas with me when my youngest was due, so he could give me a lift to the hospital. He has been there for me my whole life and is my best friend to this day. I know that I can go to him with anything and he will always love and support me. He has shared my happiest and saddest days, and now i'm sharing his darkest. In November 2017 at only 54 years of age he was diagnosed with terminal oesophageal cancer which has migrated. The devastation and heartbreak that enveloped our family is suffocating. This aggressive disease doesn't discriminate, he is an amazing man with a heart of gold and is loved by so many. I may not have another 30 years growing old with my brother, sharing the challenges that old age brings (which has always been my plan). But I am being blessed with a little more time. Time for myself and my children to make more memories with him (the best uncle in the whole world), and for him to enjoy what time he has left with us. If it weren't for the donations for the research into cancer, and the treatments now available we would not as a family have the gift of more time. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work, so please sponsor me now. Donating through this page is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with Cancer Research UK. Thank you from my whole being for your support With love x
