I’m raising as much as I can to beat Linus Plastica stomach cancer.
In memory of
Matthew Simpson
My mate Matt died nearly 5 years ago. He was diagnosed with linitis plastica, a rare form of stomach cancer, in October 2012 and passed away in November 2013 aged just 40 years old, leaving behind a young family. Matt fought this disease with guts and determination but was ultimately doomed; as the 5 year survival rate is only 8%. His wife Trine has orchestrated a multinational fundraising effort called #sillyhatformatt where a bunch of Matt’s mates have commited to physical challenges, and fundraising, in order to bring some much needed attention and research into linitis plastica (stomach cancer). My challenge is to run 10km and do 500 push-ups in 1 hour. I have until the end of November to achieve this. I’ve been training for a couple of months and realise that I set the bar too high. I do not expect to achieve this goal, but I’m going for it nevertheless. Matt was tough enough to elect to have his stomach removed to give him some more time with his family. So, I’m going to bust a gut every time I give this challenge a go. I'll try at least 6 times to make it. I’m doing this for you Matt. My suffering will be temporary, and will be nothing compared to yours. RIP my good man...
