My Story
We all have someone dear to us who is or has been affected by cancer. While some are able to live with the illness, others suffer in silence or have sadly lost their battle. We may not find a cure for this beast in our life time but we can support efforts to bring us one step closer. Cancer Research is my chosen charity and I’d like to promote their work and support their efforts by taking part in the 2017 Great North Run on Sunday 10 September in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. I am seeking small donations from lots of people to raise awareness of the great work going on to find cures and kinder treatments. Your donations, no matter how small, can help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. Mum was diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer in early December 2016. Five weeks later the illness claimed her life. Your donation may mean that this illness and many others are detected earlier and have a chance of being treated, thus prolonging life in a manageable way. Such a breakthrough would mean so much to so many people. As many of you know, I’m a tennis player, not at all a long-distance runner… but, I’m learning to enjoy pounding the roads. In committing to this initiative, I’m testing my boundaries, hoping to prove that with discipline, hard work and self-belief, the goals one sets are achievable. Donating through this page is simple, fast and secure. In memory of: Maureen Wardle (Mum), Harry Wardle, Gillian Bell, Irene & Dougie Balbirnie, , Debra Austin (nee Morrison), Michaela Kruschina. And in support of family and friends currently battling the beast…. keep going and never give up.
