My Story
Cancer is happening right now, which is why I'm taking part in a Race for Life 5k to raise money and save lives. In the last 7 months of my life, I have learnt and grown in infinite ways. I have learnt about myself, who I am and what my dreams are. I have learnt to never underestimate my own strength, and the quiet strength of my family. I have learnt about the love and support that surrounds my family, and how it has helped hold us together when we felt broken. I have learnt how one person can have such an extraordinary impact on so many people. I have learnt the importance of having goals, no matter how big or small, and living for a bigger purpose. I have learnt about the importance of leading full, busy lives but making time for reflection and for memories. And I have learnt how it's even more important to find all the little ways to smile and laugh and conquer. I am running this 5K in memory of my mother who we lost last August after an 11 year battle. My extraordinary, powerful, and selfless superwoman and my best friend. I am taking my strength and guidance from her, as I have done for the 22 years I have been on this Earth. I hope to make her proud and I hope to add my own personal contribution to fighting this global battle which has affected so many families and continues to do so. I am running - or walking - or crawling - on this day as a way to celebrate her life with my loved ones in one of the best ways possible. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
