My Story

20 November saw my "5 year" mark - cancer survival rates use this day as a benchmark, when we are filled with hope that IF it has not recurred by five years after initial diagnosis, the chance of a later recurrence is very small. To be fair my surgery took most of my main at risk organs away so fingers crossed. πŸ˜‰ Undergoing any cancer diagnosis is traumatic, but having family and friends who support you all the way is priceless. I've nothing but overwhelming thanks for them and have managed to convince some of them to join me on this nuts adventure! ((they all run marathons, they'll be lapping me!) Threshold Sports have launched a new initiative - Ultra 50:50 – which endeavours to achieve gender parity and set new industry standards to inspire, empower and enable women to take part in events at the toughest end of the running distance spectrum. In the build-up to the Race to the King Ultra Marathon in June, they have recruited a team of real female Ultra 50:50 Challengers to help inspire other women to take on the challenge. We all have a unique story to tell – and I am definitely the underdog! My story is one of a "non-runner" who didn't think something like this was possible post surgery. My regular running plan over the years has been 5km once a fortnight... with the dog pulling me along! However, I hope that my achievements during the campaign will demonstrate that I CAN do it and that ultra running can be an accessible sport for everyone - even if they have a stoma and very little experience! I've bitten off more than I can chew this time! Hence my need for motivation from you lot! 😊 If you would like to nominate a name for my arm, please feel free x
