Alyn Hammet
My Story
In May last year, just as I was finishing my cancer treatment I heard that a friend, Alyn Hammett was at what the medics call "end of life stage". He had heard that his cancer had returned only a few months before, and it had spread quickly. His lovely wife and daughters were with him as he fought hard, really hard. But we finally said goodbye to him in November. After the funeral everybody piled into the pub. Al's picture was on the bar, and - charming and teasing as ever - he wanted to buy a big round to say goodbye. Cancer is cruel. Cancer changes you and everyone it touches. I really want to help other people facing this diagnosis. I've started volunteering for a brilliant organisation called "Working With Cancer" and taking part in the Race for Life last year just after radiotherapy was a milestone moment for me. The support from friends at such a difficult time was incredible and I continue to thank you all. It meant a huge amount. This year, I'm looking forward to walking the track again with my magnificent friend Lin Limbrey who has also had her cancer battle. Together we hope the money we raise will help fund new research to improve treatments for anyone who experiences cancer in the future. I will be doing this race in memory of Al Hammett. At the end of the race I wouldn't be at all surprised if we go to the nearest pub and raise a large glass in his memory. Thank you for your support
