Debbie's Race for Life

This year marks 10 years since I lost my beautiful Mum to cancer, and this run happens to fall on the anniversary, so I thought what better way to honour her while raising awareness and money for cancer research than getting out of breath, tired and muddy?! In 2011, I lost not only my mum but my best friend. I would love to do anything I can to stop even just one person going through the same thing. It saddens me that so many of my friends and people my age have lost a parent way too soon, not to mention the hundreds and thousands of others who are affected by cancer every single day. Every single branch of my family has suffered from cancer, from my granny, to my mum, to my aunt, to my step mum, and I've had enough of it!! We often think that our actions surely can't change the world and so decide against carrying them out - but just imagine what would happen if everyone who wanted to take action, actually did? One person doing it may only be one step, but that is one step further than if they didn't. And 100 people doing it is 100 steps further. Wouldn't it be great to work towards a world where cancer doesn't have such a far-reaching effect? Cancer Research has been hit hard by Covid and we now face the possibility of cancer survival going backwards for the first time in decades. Let's work together to stop this happening.
