My Story
On 30 June I, yes you have read right me Mrs Bouquet, am taking part in Race for Life Pretty Muddy, in aid of Cancer Research, I will be doing this with my work colleagues from North Kent College - the NKC Muddies!! Personally, I am competing in this to raise money in memory of my best friend's beautiful daughter, Chantelle, who was diagnosed with hydrocephalus when she was only 3 years old. Then when Chantelle was 5 years old this brave little angel^s family was given the devastating news that she had a brain tumour. She was under the care of Great Ormond Street Hospital where she had to endure intensive radiotherapy and was fitted with a brain shunt. You would never, in a million years, know just how poorly Chantelle was as she was so full of life always happy, and smiling, despite some of the most awful intrusive treatment that she had to have. Chantelle had nurses coming home to her but she never went into respite, or a hospice for palliative care as her 24hr amazing nurse was her wonderful mum. Unfortunately, Chantelle lost her battle to live. I want to raise as much money as possible so that, hopefully, no other family has to go thorough the same thing or if they do, hopefully, with all the money raised for research, the outcome will be a better one. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
