My Story
By taking part in this event I’m hoping to raise money for cancer research in memory my dad, who sadly died of bowel cancer in 2009. My dad was born in 1943 and was fortunate to work in a job which he loved, a design engineer, and over the years travelled to many countries with my mum. When he was diagnosed with bowel cancer he had to have a colostomy, which did not deter him from taking my mum on a long trip all round America, where she had always wanted to go. During my dad’s last months they returned from Asturias where they had been living, so my dad could spend some time with all his family and friends. He died peacefully in 2009, at home in Bognor Regis. “I am also participating in a race to honour the memory of my uncle and dad's brother Roger Skidmore, who bravely battled prostate cancer for six years. This race stands as a testament to his strength and aims to raise essential funds to combat this disease in his name. Everyone who knew Roger speaks of his remarkable character; he was always smiling, filled with laughter, and had an incredible ability to see the best in people, especially the children at the school where he worked. Each step taken and every pound raised brings us nearer to a future where others are spared the suffering caused by this disease.” In memory also, to all those relatives we have lost to this horrible disease
