My Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my fundraising page. Cancer is happening right now, which is why I’m fundraising right now for Cancer Research UK. There’s no time to lose! Donate to my page today and help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. 2020-21 I set myself a mental challenge of walking a half marathon everyday for 365 days to help raise money for cancer research as it’s now very close to my heart. But I have now set myself another challenge of doing 10 miles a day for a 1000 days I am doing this challenge, not only for people very close in my life, but also for everyone who is suffering from cancer I am NOT taking anytime off work to do this challenge like some people do to complete these big challenges - its all in my own time. I lost my Dad and work colleague to cancer here are their stories and what the challenge is for: My Dad - Just as the UK got the news of the Covid 19 paramedic and the UK was going into lock-down, my Dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer (Squamous cell carcinoma of the lungs) which is now spreading around to other parts of his body. So far he has had 7 treatments of Immunotherapy - 1 every 3 weeks and 6 treatments of Radiotherapy. He has sadly passed away in hospital on the 15th Oct 20 at 22:30hrs . Deano - A work colleague of mine was diagnosed with Oesophageal Cancer in July 18 he started Chemo straight away and had excellent results from the treatment. In April 19 he started radiotherapy but there was no progress. In Nov 19 a stent was fitted due to swallowing difficulties then in Dec 19, Chemo started again but was stopped when the pandemic began, which was sad as the results was showing reduction. In April 20 radium treatment was administered to stem bleeding, with ongoing symptom control to date.He has sadly passed away at home on the 26th Oct 20 at 02:00hrs. But also a young Lady called Chloe Pescod who was one of my inspirations on my first challenge but Chloe got some good news the cancer cleared in 2021. But since then Chloe sadly passed away on the 3rd Feb 2023 with a heart problem. And just recently a old friend of mind Sticky got the news about Cancer I served with Sticky for many years in the Blues and Royals, and he was always a great mentor and inspiration to me when I was a young Trooper. After he left the Army for a new career in Devon, he started to donate blood to help out the NHS as he's O Negative, a group that is used a lot in emergency operations. It was flagged that something was wrong at October's donation last year, and a Laboratory Blood test by the GP was done. Cancer wasn't detected, but a disorder not linked to cancer was. Treatment was given, and he felt really good until April, when scans were done after rapidly feeling unwell with head, eye and sinus pain and was admitted to A&E in May as Antibiotics hadn't worked and Bloods showed no infection. CT & Contrast MRI showed a rapidly growing Glioblastoma Multiforme, which is a Grade 4 brain tumour under the WHO grading system and was detected only 2 weeks before he was due to attend a presentation of a New Blues and Royals Standard by His Majesty The King at Buckingham Palace, as an active part of the regiments, veterans association. The Nurological surgeon said he would ensure Sticky was well enough to attend, and he did, some 8 days, with meds and his wife, 100 veterans and a ceremonial Squadron as his escort, some 250 miles away from where the surgery was done to biopsy and debulk the Tumour ready for Radiotherapy and Cemo, but he fully understands that this GBM Cancer is Not Curable but is having a programmed treatment, based on trials in other countries, so he can get his family's future in order, and try and enjoy the time he has left, with loved ones, friends, work colleagues and fellow Veterans. Craig sadly passed away on 11th November 2024 at 07:54 hrs One day, a simple test may find cancer early, improving treatment and survival.
