My Story
My dad was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer 2nd November 2024 after having never really been unwell in his life. Over the course of the next few months he seemed to be doing well and getting better with the help of chemo. However on 25th February, we were told that the cancer had progressed to a stage where there was nothing further to be done and he had weeks to live. Dad passed away 6th March 2025, at the age of 59 and left a huge hole in our family. Pancreatic cancer is one of the most fatal cancers as it often is asymptomatic for most sufferers until it is far too late. Everyone always thinks “it wouldn’t happen to me” or “my family will be fine” and I have to admit I was one of those people. However it is unfortunately not the case unless you are very lucky. When I decided to take part in this run on New Year’s Day this year, I thought it would be great to get fit and raise money for a god clause. I also thought my dad would be at the finish line waiting to celebrate with me. Of course this is unfortunately not the case as I’m sure is the case for some of the other participants but I’m still excited to raise money for this great charity. For anyone who knows me, fitness and/or running are not my strong suit but I want to do all I can to help this amazing cause so that we can continue to help others everywhere. I will have my amazing friend Vicky running with me and helping me train (wish her luck)! So please donate what you can and I’ll do my bit to do “The Couch (potato) to 10k”.
