I did it. 10,000 metres. Actually 10,249!! Done. In May, I swam 10K for Cancer Research UK — 400 lengths of a 25-metre pool — and I have the chlorine-damaged hair and the completely irrational pride to prove it. It started at King Alfred's in Brighton. I signed up, pulled on a lurid tangerine swim cap, waddled to the slow lane, and told myself: just do 20 lengths. I did 42 on my first proper session. From there, something shifted. I'm not a professional athlete. I have arthritis-level joint pain, zero oestrogen (thank you, menopause), and a brain that will happily talk me out of anything. But there's something about being underwater — the muffled quiet, gliding over the tiles — that made every session feel worth showing up for. 400 lengths later, here we are. Cancer research saves lives. It's that simple. Every pound you donate goes directly to the scientists making that happen. If this made you smile even slightly — please donate. Even a fiver makes a difference. Thank you. 💙

My Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. I’m going to be taking on the Swim 10k Challenge in May to help raise money for Cancer Research UK. Everyone knows someone. That's just the truth of cancer in 2026. A parent, a friend, a colleague, yourself. The statistics aren't abstract — they're the people in your actual life, getting on with it, living fully, being brilliant and complicated and loved. I want to be part of making more research happen. The quiet, unglamorous, essential work in labs — the test tubes and the DNA sequencing and the early detection tools — that's what moves the needle. That's what means people get to live longer, better lives with and beyond a diagnosis. I also carry the BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene mutations, so this one is a bit personal. I'm a lone parent to a teenager I plan to be around for for a very long time. Paying attention to this stuff isn't optional for me — and that makes me want to do something useful with that attention. So I'm swimming 10k in May. One length at a time, in a pool that will definitely smell of chlorine. It's not glamorous either. But it feels like the right thing to do on a May morning. Please show your support and help fund life-saving cancer research by donating to my page. If you can spare anything at all, thank you. And if you can't, sharing this page costs nothing and means everything. Daisy x
