My Story
Thank you for visiting my Cancer Research UK Cycle 200 page. This September, before the end of the month, I will complete 200 miles on my bike for Cancer Research UK. I will be pedalling harder than ever because I want to raise money for life-saving research and help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. Every penny makes a huge difference to vital cancer research so please show your support with a donation to my page. In January of 2020, we lost our darling daughter, sister and auntie Sarah, to SUDEP (sudden unexplained death in epilepsy), but her death, was directly related to a brain tumour she suffered as a baby. Initial surgery, followed by heavy treatments of Radiotherapy resulted many years later in damaged tissue causing small epileptic fits, then suddenly and very unexpectedly, a major one which claimed her life while she slept. In her 34 years with us, she lead an active, fruitful and mostly well life after such a challenging start. Her love of horses and children, mapping out what mostly kept her busy in terms of work and hobbies. She is very missed, but we have constant reminders of the large and loving part she played in our lives. We as a family have always held the many Medics involved in Sarah's care in the highest regard, and not least those researching constantly, to find better ways forward with complex treatments. To that end, Sarah herself was always quick to sign up to any research projects that she was invited to be part of. Surviving childhood cancer provides valuable data, and we have hoped that down the years, others may have benefitted from Sarah's input. Sarah would be finding the fact, that her mother is trying to cover this distance under her own power, and not with the aid of a horse hilarious and baffling! To an extent her mother is too, hence only putting this post up when she could see there was a chance she might achieve the goal by the end of the month!! I have my two sisters Janie and Gail, to thank hugely, for motivating me to start cycling, and showing me how much fun there is in this shared experince.
