My Story
Oesophageal cancer has had, and continues to have, a big impact on my family. It is five years since I lost my father to the disease, and earlier this year my cousin received the horrible diagnosis and is now undergoing treatment. This has motivated me to take on a ‘Coast to Coast’ walking challenge, which will see me hike just over 200 miles from my hometown of Aberdeen to the village of Glenelg in the Highlands, over the course of 14 days this summer. I have teamed up with Cancer Research, with funds going specifically towards the incredible work they are doing to improve prospects for oesophageal cancer patients. There are around 9,400 new cases of oesophageal cancer each year, and although there has been an increase in those who survive the disease for over 10 years (13%) I am determined to play my part in helping the efforts of those who are working tirelessly to drive up these figures. I will start my walk at Aberdeen beach on Sunday, June 21, and I aim to reach my destination in Glenelg on Saturday, July 4. A donation of any amount to my cause would be so greatly appreciated, and would help me massively in my motivation to tackle this challenge.
