I have decided to set myself a challenge and would like you to help me on my journey to achieve this and help raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research UK. The past year has been a difficult year for two friends and colleagues of mine Helen Nattrass and Coral Rose. I am very proud of both of them, and their fight against cancer has inspired me to push myself to the limit. In December 2018 Helen Nattrass (Area Sales Manager for Caterite) was diagnosed with cancer and started treatment in January stating, “I’ll be back at work in the summer”. After the news of Helen being diagnosed with cancer and discussing the challenge she faced, I told her that when she beats this I will set myself a well-known challenge (with a twist), and raise money for the cause. Helen is a fighter and we are extremely happy to say that she has beaten cancer, and has returned to work within 6 months. So here I am, keeping up my side of the bargain. In our extended work family, Coral Rose (Managing Director for the Country Range Group), who was diagnosed with breast cancer in April, is still undergoing treatment and fighting the fight. Her sense of humour in a video link at the Country Range summer event displayed her positive outlook and determination, and I would like to extend the fund raising efforts to her as well. The Challenge Plenty of ideas were discussed with the Caterite team, it was pointed out that I am too short for swimming and cycling challenges, so it was suggested to do a running challenge (something I am ok at). I have decided to complete the famous ‘Coast to Coast’ cycle route….on foot, in less than 72 hours. I will run/walk non-stop from St Bees, Cumbria to Tynemouth, Tyne and Wear which is a total of 120 miles. I will have my colleagues Tariq Malik and Graham Fraser cycling alongside me providing navigational support and the occasional kick up the backside, and Lisa Ashworth-Whittaker will drive a support vehicle carrying refreshments and emergency plasters! Thank you in advance for your support, I am sure the Caterite marketing team will keep you up to date on the journey with live social media posts and money raised. (This could be quite entertaining for you). I would really appreciate as much support as possible, I am not putting a target amount to raise for this challenge as I want peoples sponsorship contributions to reflect how difficult a challenge they think this is, rather than just help me reach a nominal amount.
