My Story
I haven't done a Race for Life for years mainly because 1) I love running anyway and 2) I've asked for sponsorship before!!! But this year is different. My friend bullied me into doing it, I bullied Caitlin into joining me (she'll be nearly 10 on the big day!), and it will actually be a real challenge for me to complete 5k in less than a month's time Also, cancer has been rather closer to home in 2018 than ever before, and I and my loved ones have seen first hand the pioneering cancer treatments that are now available, changing outcomes, and getting better by the day. Previously I've had the luxury of choosing charities on a whim, but not anymore. It was a shock to the system to be diagnosed with leukaemia at the end of February this year, I pretty much felt my normal fit and healthy (and exhausted!) self, and was even gearing up for a half marathon (first of many this year, or so I thought). Then our world pretty much came crashing down. Long story short, a bone marrow biopsy, neverending cough and oral chemotherapy have not been great for my running, but I've been out walking and I can definitely cover 5k!! Just not necessarily very quickly... But that's just me. There are other loved ones, friends, acquaintances all suffering too. Through sharing my diagnosis I have come across so many stories of people fighting and beating cancer, some people you wouldn't know who have had cancer, some people who forgot they ever had cancer. Please donate so that there can be more stories like that!! ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cancer is happening right now, which is why I'm taking part in a Race for Life 5k to raise money and save lives. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work, so please sponsor us now. Donating through this page is simple, fast and totally secure.
