My Story
In March of this year, our family lost a beautiful young woman at the young age of 31 to cancer. She left behind a husband and three wonderful children, not to mention countless family and friends. When something like this happens it's hard to rationalise, but it seems that these days, more and more people are being affected by cancer at a younger age. Only last year a friend of mine (who is my age) was diagnosed with breast cancer. Thankfully she has come through it, but it was a really tough time for her and her family. Times like this make you realise how precious life is and that we shouldn't take our health for granted, so I decided I need to take better care of myself, which of course involves more exercise. However, for those of you who know me, i'm not a gym bunny. I have tried countless times over the years to stick to an exercise regime, but being busy all the time (that's been my excuse), has meant it's never stuck as a regular thing in my life. I therefore need an incentive!! Always a fan of the saying "Go BIG or go home!", I thought what better way of making me get active and sticking to it, than committing to something I perceive as a huge challenge I would never usually attempt, in the knowledge that i'll be asking my friends and family to part with their hard earned cash, if I achieve it! It's for a great cause I might add! Something you should know is that I absolutely HATE running. In fact my husband (Terry) says I don't go running, I go clumping, because i'm so heavy footed and absolutely useless! So, of course, for my challenge, i've picked the one thing I despise the most and i'm going to be doing (fingers crossed), THE GREAT SOUTH RUN on 21st October 2018. 10 miles of pure pain and suffering (you can come and watch...bring popcorn!) I'm hoping that you lovely people will help to incentivise me with a small donation (£) of encouragement. I've set the target fairly low in terms of what i'd like to raise, not because I don't want to raise more, i'd really love to! But, because I know that you probably get asked to sponsor lots of people throughout the year and there are many other worthy charities who value your support too. All i'm asking is for 50 people to sponsor me £5 each. If you'd like to sponsor me more, then that would be amazing and i promise i'll try and run extra fast and not throw up at the end (or half way through)!. I'll be posting pictures on my Facebook page (link below) of my training over the next few months and may also start writing a blog of my suffering (if I get the time). https://www.facebook.com/Go-Big-or-Go-Home-Claires-Running-Challenge-457721771351600/ Thank you so very much!
