My Story
I am running this race for three reasons: 1. See below re the fight against cancer and how connected we all are, sadly, to this dreadful disease. 2. My best friend's dad, a wonderful man called Clive Reading, died of a brain tumour last year. I want to run in his memory. Clive was a really outstanding and remarkable man - a leading clinical psychologist, frequently called as expert witness in complex legal cases; someone who took up triathlons in his sixties, was soon representing the UK at the World Championships, and won silver at the European championship in 2014; most importantly, he was a deeply compassionate, kind and loving father and grandfather. 3. I want to prove something to myself. I do not run. I'm not a runner. Until March this year I had not run further than 20 steps for thirty years. As of today (5 July) I am only half way through my 'couch to 10k' training, but I will run-jog-walk-stagger-crawl and get the 10K done. I have injured my left Achilles, I'm overweight. It won't be fun, nor will it be pretty. Please sponsor me!
