My Story
Today I am looking forward to April when I will be celebrating my 60th birthday. However 30 years ago it was not such a happy occasion because two days after my 30th birthday, my mum died of breast cancer. She was 59 years old. I want to do something to celebrate my life and also try to raise money for Cancer Research. In order to do this I have decided to take part in this year's Fradley 10km race. The race takes place on Sunday, 11th March, which also happens to be Mothering Sunday so seems very appropriate. I hadn't run a step for over 30 years until late last year, and when I started I was almost three stone heavier than the last time I had put on a pair of running shoes. To say it has been a bit of a shock to my system is something of an understatement. I know I am a lot slower than I was in my 20s but all in all I have been enjoying the challenge. Making such a public announcement of my intention is quite scary for me. It means I would no longer just be letting myself down if I don't complete it, I would be letting down Cancer Research: I will not let myself do that. Thank you for visiting my Fundraising Page and reading my story. I am grateful of any donation you feel able to give. The money I raise will help fund life-saving research and bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. Cindy Donating through this page is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with Cancer Research UK.
