Shine London 2019 - Full Marathon
Sat 21 Sep 2019 - Sat 21 Sep 2019
In memory of
Mick Hawker
I will be walking the Shine Marathon with my Mum, Dad and Sister in Memory of my Uncle, Mick Hawker. My Uncle Mick was a fantastic man with an amazing sense of humour. A brother, husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law and friend to so many. Mick was sadly taken away from us after his battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Following Mick’s diagnosis I decided to look into outcomes following diagnosis with Pancreatic Cancer and was shocked at how poor outcomes were. 1% of those diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer survive more than 10 years. This makes it one of the least survivable cancers known. Funding remains poor and that is why we, as a family, have been inspired to try and help make a difference. We will be walking this marathon at night in London at a fast pace aiming for a competitive time and every donation we receive will inspire us and help push us along the finish line. Thank you so very much in advance x
CAUSE
Pancreatic cancer
Survival rates for pancreatic cancer remain stubbornly low in the UK, often because the disease is diagnosed late and is difficult to treat. Help Cancer Research UK make progress in one of the biggest research challenges its scientists are facing – to find better ways to detect and treat the disease.
