What is cancer?
Cancer is many things to different people. I first heard of cancer when I was 9 years old. My mum developed an agressive form of breast cancer at the age of 39 in hospital in Derby, and was cruelly taken away from me, my brother and my Dad, not to mention her own mum and dad and sister and brother. This pain has never gone away. It reminds me every time I've had to go to hospital over the years for an appointment or even to visit family and friends. I hate hospitals... people go in hospital to die. Thats what I remember from when I was 9 years old.....
Then my Dad met a lovely lady called Jean who married my dad when I was 13 years old and she bacame my mum for the next 41 years. Sadly, and by another cruel twist of fate she too was taken by cancer at the age of 82 in June last year.
Two remarkable ladies in my life who gave so much love and affection.
Cures and treatments for cancers has come on in leaps and bounds over the last 30 - 40 years. Could the treatments that is offered today have saved my mum....given her some more time with her family? Maybe, we will never know.........
