And so begins Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 🎀 An annual campaign to raise awareness - and funds - for Breast Cancer charities and to show support for the many people affected by breast cancer. I’m not particularly sporty, so it’s safe to say that I won’t be running marathons or climbing mountains to raise money. But I can design cross stitch charts! So, all funds from my new release - Miss Eliza M. Stone, 1881 - will be going directly to Cancer Research UK, a cancer research and awareness charity here in the UK. Firstly, let me tell you about Eliza and her sampler…Eliza Maria Stone was born in 1870, in Kenninghall, Norfolk. When Eliza is a toddler, she and her family move some 150 miles north to Attercliffe cum Darnall in Sheffield. The contrast between rural Norfolk and industrial Sheffield must have been very stark. However, the move obviously suited the family because they never return to their home county. And it is here in Attercliffe, at the local school, that Eliza stitches her colourful sampler. Eliza’s original sampler is stitched using very bright colours. I have chosen to stitch my model in pinky hues - and on pink fabric - to tie in with going pink for October. I hope young Eliza would approve of the changes! 💗 The design uses cross stitch only (no over 1 either!) so is suitable for both linen and Aida. My model is stitched on 40ct ‘Ballet Slippers’ from Fox and Rabbit Designs using WDW ‘Cinnabar’ and Classic Colorworks ‘Used Brick’ (DMC conversion is provided). The stitch count is 121 by 141 and when stitched on 40ct is 6 x 7 inches.
