My Story
This year I am running the race for life for many reasons but the main one being that my little brother was recently diagnosed with Crohn's disease which increases his chances of developing this life changing disease. Crohn's is a chronic inflammatory disease, which can affect the whole of the alimentary tract. Research suggests that patients with Crohn’s disease (CD) of the small and/or large intestine have an increased risk of developing cancer at these sites. Researcher's say that after 10 years the risk of someone with Crohn's disease developing cancer is 1 in 50, after 20 years the risk increases to 1 in 10 and after 30 years it is even higher with the risk being 1 in 5. Crohn's is a life changing disease and so is cancer so I would like to do everything I can in order to raise money for this incredible cause in order to fund researcher further and to help others. This year, my mum had a cancer scare. There was an abnormality on her mammogram, this was biopsied straight away without hesitation and it was benign. We are so grateful that it was acted upon quickly and it was taken seriously. I will run the race for life knowing that I am doing it for my brother's future and for everyone else that has had cancer or has it. Every penny that is donated will fund Cancer Research UK's groundbreaking work, so please - anything will help.
