Cherie's Race for Life

Thanks for taking the time to visit my Race for Life fundraising page. My dear Mum, Jean, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in January 2008. She fought a tough battle through surgery and chemotherapy until August 2009 when she very sadly lost the fight and passed away. Throughout Mum’s illness she never asked ‘Why me?’ and was never angry - just grateful it was not one of her children. She was totally selfless and this has stayed with me ever since. Mum was the life and soul of the party and enjoyed 76 happy years alive - 56 of those married to my Dad, who was by her side until the very end and misses her every day. Mum was an amazing mother, awesome Grandmother and a hugely inspirational lady. She was a strong Yorkshire lass and I strive to face the challenges in my life with the same determination. My race for life is just a drop in the ocean compared to the challenges faced by everyone fighting or having fought cancer, including several other members of our dear family and friends who have fought against and are currently fighting against this cruel disease. My race is dedicated to all who have been affected by cancer but especially to the loving memory of my Mum, my sister-in-law Julie and my brother-in-law Chris; to the survival of my sister-in-law Debbie and to the current battle of my sister-in-law Sue who is bravely undergoing chemo in preparation for her stem cell transplant later this year. My heart goes out to you all and your amazingly supportive families who have been and are with you every painful step of the way.
