My brave and inspirational friend Jodie.

My Story

In September 2016, just after her 40th birthday one of my oldest (31yrs) and best friends Jodie was diagnosed with breast cancer. It not only rocked her world but all those who are closest to her. She probably wouldn't totally agree but Jodie has been amazing and coped valiantly not only with the initial diagnosis but also with the ops, the gruelling treatments and also the seemingly endless side effects. In May, Jodie finally finished her treatments and is doing really well- Yay. I'm so proud of her. She's been an inspiration to all of us and is now preparing for the future cancer free. For those of you who know me, you'll know that running has NEVER been on my agenda in life. I've always said I couldn't do it! However, after being inspired by a recent documentary I signed up to a couch potato to 5K runner course. My tutor Jenny has had her work cut out but I'm now just a couple of weeks away from completion. This race for life run will be one of my first official 5k runs. My sister who also said she couldn't run (it's a family thing) is running with me thank goodness so there's no going back now. We are using this opportunity to raise valuable funds for more research into this all too common disease that affects far too many. This is my chance to say thank you to all those professionals who have worked and continue to work tirelessly to make a better future for Jodie and all the other sufferers. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
