My Story
This year, I’m taking part in the Race for Life in Edinburgh. There are several reasons, the biggest one being that two family members - and a few of my friends - have been deeply affected by cancer in their lives. My grandfather sadly died of prostate cancer when I was a very young child; I wish I’d had the chance to know him, and I think it’s so vital that people have a greater awareness of - and less shame around - male-specific cancers. I want to do something to help fund life-changing research. Research into HPV (Human Papilloma Virus), for example, which is what causes cervical cancer. It’s great that school children are being offered the HPV vaccine now, because I genuinely believe it saves lives. My sister’s story may have been very different had it been introduced back when we were of school age.
