Blimey, doesn't time fly? One day in May 2011 I took myself to my GP, to get this little lump- about the size of a mint imperial- checked out. 'Probably a cyst' she said, 'but we'll send you to get it looked at anyway'. A week later I'd got a biopsy and a diagnosis- I was now a member of the Cancer Club. The next year was a blur of hospital appointments, chemo sessions, wig fittings, surgery, radiotherapy, more surgery and immunotherapy. The staff at Peterborough and Addenbrookes were absolutely amazing and I am so grateful to each and every one of them. Friends and family too became a vital part of 'Team Hamilton'- they babysat me or the kids when I was feeling awful, shopped, cooked, knitted hats to keep my baldy head warm, and left home-baked cake on the doorstep- I owe them all so much. I am so lucky to have had these 10 extra years with my lovely husband Chris (who literally saved my life) and to have seen my children grow up into the beautiful young adults they are. I wanted to do something special to mark that and to give a little back to a charity which has done so much to improve the life-chances of people like me. So Olivia, Ben and I will be taking part in the London SHINE night walk on 25th September. It's a whopping 26+ miles and we are training hard- my new walking boots are looking terrible but wearing in nicely and I've stocked up on blister plasters, just in case.
