Carys's Race for Life

Five years ago I had the shock my life, I was diagnosed with Cervical Cancer. The fear of death was immediate, I thought my life was over. However I was lucky, it was caught early through Smear tests. I had a hysterectomy and chose to have my ovaries removed as I also had endometriosis. My husband was my rock and my mum and dad came to support me after the op a week before Christmas. A couple of years later my children told me they thought they would lose me but they had kept that fear to themselves so as not to upset me. That was heart breaking to hear. I am lucky to have needed no other treatment to get rid of this disease. My dad is not so, he has had it in his Colon, skin and is currently living with Leakemia. Cancer has taken my Aunty Eunice, Uncle Jeff, dear Joanne, Rachael and tried to take Aunty Susan, Rachel, Janice, Seren and many, many more. Research is needed to rid us of this terrible disease and find cures that don't make us so ill. It has been a while since I have taken part in a Race for life and I have decided to challenge myself to a 10k race instead of the comfortable 5k to celebrate being clear of Cancer for 5 years.
