My Story
Cancer is happening right now, which is why I'm taking part in a Race for Life 5k to raise money and save lives. I am doing this in memory of the Dad, my hero who died at the age of 63... he was always fit and healthy until he became ill in December 2012. He had developed an aggressive brain tumour, quickly losing his whole ability to walk, talk, feed, wash himself and at times even to recognise who we are... on his diagnosis he was given 8 weeks to live.... he defied the odds by 8 weeks and a day! Now its my turn to defy the odds and attempt to run/jog the 5k... I know my dad would have laughed at this feat ... knowing full well how unsporty and unfit I am.. I didn't even own a pair of trainers until recently! I am doing this with my sister who equally was not blessed with the fitness gene! We want to raise as much money as possible to help other families who go through similar heartbreak of developing cancer in the hope that one day something can be done to beat this awful disease... My Dad never got to meet his twin Grandaughters who were born 5 months after he passed away... I hope by raising this money I can help families live on through cancer enjoying everything life has to offer to its full potential. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
