My Story
Cancer is happening right now, which is why I'm taking part in a Race for Life 5k to raise money and save lives. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work, so please sponsor me now. Donating through this page is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with Cancer Research UK. My mother died of breast cancer almost 22 years ago. She was the strongest person I know. When she found out she had breast cancer, she had a mastectomy..... then carried on with life, working and looking after her family. She never once complained, no matter how difficult life became for her. She shouldered much of this on her own, not wanting to burden her family. What a hard road it was for her to travel. Today, I know she would not have walked that road alone. Today, I know more about Cancer Nurse Specialists and know they would have been there to support her and for her to lean on. Today, I know she would have had a better chance of living a cancer free life for longer after diagnosis. So today, I'm choosing to take part in the Race for Life in memory of my mum, Vivienne Fisher, who was my hero; who I worshipped; who stood strong and tall through the toughest of times; who never ever complained, even at the most difficult of times for her. As a nurse herself, my mother was a forerunner for Macmillan nurses, tending and caring for patients with terminal illnesses at The Ropewalk, Nottingham General Hospital. She would have been proud of an organisation such as Macmillan and would have wanted to have a part in caring for those with the same cancer which took her from us. I am proud of my mum and the way she fought against cancer. I still miss her every, single day, and I will always miss her. This is my fight against cancer for you, mum xx
