My Story
On Sunday 28th June I’m going to be paddling like crazy, dressed as a Viking, in Bristol Docks to raise money for Business Beats Cancer Bristol, part of Cancer Research UK. Whatever we raise will help fund research happening right now in the city. Last year, out of 20 Dragon Boats, we amazingly came 3rd and raised nearly £5,000. This year we are entering 2 teams and hope to raise £10,000. Every penny goes to vital research. Most of us have been touched by cancer either personally, via family, friends and colleagues. So many thanks in advance for your help in beating cancer together. Just so you know Bristol is home to a paediatric Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre, which is a unique partnership between Cancer Research UK and the National Institute for Health Research in England. This connection between these two bodies allows them to bring together lab scientists and cancer doctors to speed up the flow of ideas and new treatments for cancer from the lab to the clinic. Cancer Research UK has recently awarded the biggest ever research grant to scientists in Bristol. The money will help researchers unpick the causes and mechanisms of cancer and why it progresses in some people and not others. Bristol is such an important city in the fight against cancer. To be able to announce this significant research grant is a strong endorsement of Bristol’s growing reputation as a centre of excellence for scientific research. To save lives tomorrow, we need your help today.
