Thanks for taking the time to visit my fundraising page. Cancer is happening right now, which is why I’m fundraising right now for Cancer Research UK. COVID19 has had a devastating direct impact on many this year. It is also having a really serious impact on detection and treatment of cancer. 1000 people in the UK are normally diagnosed with cancer every day - 1 every 2 minutes! Many of us have experienced the sadness and suffering of a close friend or family member battling the disease. The amount of lives this impacts and hence the opportunity to benefit so many, is why I want to spotlight the continued need to keep up the great progress in cancer research for both treatment and early diagnosis. There’s going to be a particular near term need as during COVID, 200,000 screens a week for routine cancer in the UK have not been occurring and there’s been a 75% reduction in cancer referrals. Our work has helped double cancer survival in the UK in the last 50 years. Despite this incredible progress, there’s more to be done. Nearly 1 in 2 of us will get cancer in our lifetime.
