My Story
Thank you for visiting our Donate in Memory page. Brian Randall joined Becktech at the end of 1994, after a long career in the Royal Air Force which started with an apprenticeship aged 16. Brian was with the company for 23 years and was widely respected across the vending industry for his knowledge, experience and wry, dry humour. In November 2017 Brian started to complain of feeling unwell, but he soldiered on and manned the Becktech stand at Vendex that month, as well as commemorating Armistice at the Cenotaph in London. He also had a number of trips to the GP in November, but was none-the-wiser about what ailed him. In December he was admitted to hospital for a barrage of tests and was eventually diagnosed with cancer of unknown primary, or CUP, meaning that it had spread throughout his body, but the source could not be identified. Brian was able to spend Christmas Day at home that year, for which his family will be forever grateful, but he was re-admitted to hospital on Boxing Day. Brian passed away on January 19th, 2018, just days before he was due to start chemotherapy. Brian’s family were not one of the lucky ones, and Brian’s untimely death is the reason the fight against cancer must go on. This story, and the picture above, have been reproduced with the kind permission of Brian’s wife, Carol, and their two children Jack and Vicki.
