In memory of

My mother (Deborah Plews)

My Story

It all started when I was just a kid in school. My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to undergo grueling treatments like chemotherapy. I remember seeing her lose her hair and strength, but she always put on a brave face for us. She eventually had to have her breasts removed in order to try and beat the cancer. Despite all the pain and suffering she went through, she never complained. She always told us that she was fighting for us, her children, and that she would do anything to see us grow up. For ten long years, my mom battled with the disease. She had moments of remission and hope, but ultimately the cancer found its way back. It spread to other parts of her body, and soon, there was nothing more that could be done. Watching my mom deteriorate before my eyes was the hardest thing I have ever had to endure. I felt helpless and devastated, knowing that there was nothing I could do to save her. And then, one day, she was gone. The cancer had taken her from us, leaving a gaping hole in our hearts. In her memory, I have decided to raise money for breast cancer research in the UK. I want to do everything I can to prevent other families from experiencing the pain and loss that we went through. I want to find a cure so that no one else has to suffer the way my mom did. So, I am organizing a fundraiser in honor of my mom. I hope that through our efforts, we can make a difference and give hope to those who are fighting the same battle. My mom may be gone, but her spirit lives on in me, and I will continue to fight for her and for all those affected by breast cancer.

CAUSE

Breast cancer

With almost 140 women diagnosed every day, breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK. And, although rarer, around 350 men are also diagnosed with breast cancer every year. The good news is more than two-thirds of women now survive 20 years or more. Help Cancer Research UK find new ways to diagnose and treat the disease.
